CONSTRCONSTR Builder-Renovator

How many questions are on the builder-renovator exam (RBQ)?

The Régie du bâtiment du Québec does not publish the number of questions on an exam: its exam information sheets give the duration, the passing grade and the exam type — never a question count. The exams are written by the company's guarantors (répondants), and durations differ by qualification domain:

  • Administration: 3 h, passing grade 60%
  • Construction site safety management: 1 h 30, passing grade 60%
  • Project and site management: 3 h, passing grade 60%
  • Execution of construction work: 3 h per Schedule I or II subclass applied for, passing grade 60%

All exams are multiple choice (4 options per question, one correct answer) and are taken in French or English. For subclass 1.1.1 (new residential buildings covered by a guarantee plan, class I), the content covers the legislative and regulatory framework, building design, excavation and foundations, structure, building envelope, fire protection and means of egress, building mechanics, architectural and functional components, renovation and alteration, and sustainable development.

The RBQ requires no length of experience: qualification is obtained through the exams ($105.27 per exam, 2026 fee schedule), a training program recognized by the RBQ, or a professional portfolio.
