How many questions are on the CMMTQ exam?
The CMMTQ publishes no question count for its qualification exams: neither its "Exam preparation" page nor the exam information sheets published by the RBQ for subclasses 15.1 to 15.5 state one. What it does publish (pages consulted on October 18, 2026): a 3-hour exam, taken in person on a laptop provided by the Corporation, with a passing grade of 60% — and each module must also be passed at 60% or higher.
The CMMTQ exam is not a "plumber certification": it is the qualification exam for the guarantor (répondant) in construction work execution of a plumbing contractor licence (subclass 15.5), which the CMMTQ administers as the RBQ's mandatary. Since the overhaul that took effect in February 2024, the CMMTQ states that the plumbing exam is organized around 4 modules, each requiring a passing grade of 70 to 75% depending on the module ("A new plumbing exam from February 2024", CMMTQ, November 21, 2023).
The only published question count for the plumbing trade is that of the CCQ qualification exam, which issues the worker's certificate of competence: 61 questions worth 1 point each, 3 hours, 60% passing grade ("Plumber (Pipe Fitter)" information sheet, CCQ, consulted October 18, 2026). The exam is split into three sections: preparing plumbing work (15%), installing and modifying systems (60%), repairing and maintaining (25%).
For the CMMTQ exam (15.5), the syllabus covers building supply, drainage and venting systems, anchors and supports, codes and standards, piping, valves and fittings, estimating and plan reading, installation methods and hydrostatics. Candidates are summoned by email after filing the licence application; the 2026 "Droits et frais exigibles" schedule lists a fee only for a retake, at $105.27 per exam (CMMTQ, consulted October 18, 2026).
