How much does the RBQ General Contractor license cost?

The costs for the General Contractor (RBQ) license are set by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) in its 2026 fee schedule (amounts are not taxable and are indexed every January 1):

• New license: $1,291.69 for a general license (Schedule I); $849.41 for a specialized license (Schedules II and III)
• Annual license maintenance: $989.81 for a general or general-and-specialized license; $547.53 for a specialized license
• Exam fee: set by the Régie du bâtiment du Québec (RBQ) and published in its contractor fee schedule
• Residential construction warranty (GCR): varies by type of work

The amount therefore depends on the categories (schedules) held and on whether it is a first license or the annual maintenance — not on business volume, which does not enter the calculation. Additional fees apply for category changes or license modifications. Online preparation with Metierium starts at $29/month.
