How many questions are on the CMEQ exam?
The CMEQ does not publish a question count for any of its five licence exams. Its guide « Les examens et leur préparation » describes five exams — administration, construction site safety management, Chapter V (Electricity) of the Construction Code, execution of construction work, and project and site management — and never states how many questions each one contains. What it does specify: every question offers four answers with a single correct one, all questions in an exam carry the same value, the passing score is 60% for each of the five exams, and the Chapter V (Electricity) session runs from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., the five exams being spread over three consecutive days (CMEQ guide « Les examens et leur préparation »).
The 60 questions figure that circulates for “the electrician exam” belongs to the CCQ Électricien exam (Commission de la construction du Québec), the trade qualification exam — a separate exam from the CMEQ ones. Per the CCQ's “Examen Électricien” fact sheet: 60 multiple-choice questions worth one point each, 3 hours long, passing score of 60% — that is, 36 correct answers out of 60. The exam is split into four fields of competence: Planning 22%, Installing 24%, Connections 25% and Branch circuits 29%.
For the CMEQ's Chapter V (Electricity) exam, the same guide states that questions focus on three subject areas: installation and protection of electrical equipment; sizing of branch circuits and conduits; and sizing of grounding conductors, continuity of bonded metal and protective devices.
