What is the maximum spacing between electrical outlets in a house?
According to the Quebec Construction Code, Chapter V — Electricity, receptacles must be installed so that no point measured along the wall baseboard is more than 1.8 meters (6 feet) from a receptacle. In practice, this means a maximum spacing of 3.6 meters (12 feet) between consecutive receptacles.
Additional rules:
- On a kitchen countertop, the maximum distance between receptacles is 1.2 meters (4 feet)
- A wall less than 0.9 meters (3 feet) wide must still have a receptacle
- Bathrooms require a GFCI receptacle within 1 meter of the sink
- Outdoor spaces must have at least 1 GFCI receptacle at the front and 1 at the back
