How to install a washing machine drain in Quebec?

Washing machine drain installation must comply with the Quebec Plumbing Code:

Water drainage:

• Drain pipe: 2 in (51 mm) minimum diameter
• Drain loop height: the washing machine drain hose must be at least 600 mm (24 in) from the floor and at most 900 mm (36 in)
• The washing machine hose must insert into the standpipe at least 100 mm (4 in) — never sealed
• A trap is required on the standpipe, at least 150 mm (6 in) below the washing machine hose entry

Water supply:

• Shut-off valves: ½ in, with braided flexible hoses
• Washing machine hoses should be reinforced rubber or braided stainless steel (more durable)

Hot water: A washing machine uses about 30-40 L of water per load. The recommended hot water temperature is 50°C to 60°C for effective cleaning without damaging fabrics.
